We’re best known for premium grab-and-go sushi ranked among the best in Los Angeles — and for bringing Japan’s tastes and spirit into everyday life through sake, snacks, sauces, and specialty goods.

Yama was founded by Kenzo Yamada — Mr. Yama — a former fish broker whose commitment to quality helped establish some of the best sashimi-grade fish in Los Angeles. After decades of neighborhood service, he passed the torch to the Kohno family, friends with deep roots in Japanese culture and retail.
Under their leadership, Yama has grown to three locations and more than 130 team members, while staying true to Mr. Yama’s vision: quality, accessibility, and cultural authenticity.
